Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this 2 Gallon Decorated Crock made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Classic Norton Basket of Flowers Executed with a Slip Cup Using Dark Cobalt. Measures 9 1/4" tall and 10 3/4" wide across the top.
Fair to Good Condition. Water glass staining inside (1/4" to 1 1/4"), wear on the tips of the handles, and staining from use. No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A stone ping to the left of the decoration in the making.
