Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Cake Crock made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."   
 
This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 42).  
 
This beauty features the an Uncommon Form for this Maker, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Delicate Floral.  The floral sports four leafy branches and a blossom with six petals drawn with a Slip Cup.  Measures 7" tall and 10 1/4" wide across the top.   
 
Very Good Condition. Light staining on the back, a very faint 1 1/2" hairline from the rim through the "&" of the pottery stamp, and a 1 1/2" vertical hairline below the left bottom leaf that wraps under 3" as shown.  No rim or base chips, cracks, or restoration.
