Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this 3 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT.
This is the mark of Julius Norton and his cousin Edward Norton who worked together in the family pottery from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the a Larger 3 Gallon Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Signature Norton Decoration of a Rose in Bloom executed with a Slip Cup. Stands 15 3/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. Some staining from use. No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A stone ping on the left side of the spout and in the back under the handle in the making.
