Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "J. Burger, Jr., Rochester, N.Y."
This is the work of John Burger, Jr. who ran the pottery in Rochester from 1880-1890 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, a Freehand Capacity Number, and a Daisy Executed with a Slip Cup. The floral has three leaves, two of which are accented with stripes, and a blossom with seven petals, also with accents. Bright and shiny cobalt. Measures 9" tall and 10 1/4" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. A 5/8" chip inside the rim, a 1/2" surface ping above the right handle, and some staining from use. No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A surface drying/firing line at the left handle that is in the making and glazed over (closeup) with another 1" one below at the base.
