Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and stamped by "J. Burger, Jr., Rochester, N.Y."
 
This is the work of John Burger, Jr. who ran the pottery in Rochester from 1880-1890 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).
 
This beauty features the Oval Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and the Freehand "2" Capacity Number Within a Wreath.  All the decoration was executed with precision using a slip cup.  Stands 11 1/2" tall.
 
Excellent Condition.  A couple pinhead-size nibbles on the inner lid-seating ring and one on the left handle, and a 1/4" stain.  That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
