Item 11303

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this uncommon 2 Gallon Cream Pot made and stamped by "J. B. Pfaltzgraff & Co., York, PA ."

This is the mark of John B. Pfaltzgraff, son of Johann G. Pfaltzgraff, who ran the family pottery in York in the 1870's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , p. 51;  Historical Society of York County, York, Pennsylvania, Pfaltzgraff: America's Potter, pp, 29-31).

This beauty features a Grooved Tooled Rim for Ease of Tying a Cover over the Top, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip with Two Buds at the Base and a Large Blossom Taking Center Stage.  Measures 10" tall and 9" wide across the top.

May be the first piece of J. B. Pfaltzgraff I have ever had to sell, and certainly the first piece by this pottery with this decoration.  According to the sources above, John's decorations were all quite unique and whimsical, and his pieces uncommon.

Good Condition.  A 1" chip on the rim, nibbles around the bottom fold of the tooled rim, glaze wear on the bottom of the left side, and some staining from use.  No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
