Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "J. B. Maxfield, Milwaukee."
John B. Maxfield made pottery in Milwaukee with his brother Amos from 1854-1858 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 147).
This beauty features an Ovoid Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, "2" Capacity Number, and a Large Brushed Flower in Brilliant Cobalt. The floower has a stem with six leaves and a blossom with five petals. Stands 15" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 1/2" chip on the spout that is partly in the making, and staining from use. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A stone ping under the handle in the making.
