Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Jug stamped "Ithaca, N.Y."
This is surely the mark of the potter James Macumber who ran the pottery in Ithaca with several partners from 1864-1890 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 72).
Circa 1870, this beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Folk Art Floral. A stem holds up a center bud and two blossoms with five dotted petals each. Strong cobalt applied with a slip cup. Stands 11 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Two 1/4" chips on the left side of the spout. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A chip on the right side of the spout and three kiln touches in the making.
