Item 6824
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Little 1/2 Gallon Jug made for the merchants "Hopkiins & M'Elveney, No. 619 Market St., Philadelphia." These two gentlemen sold china, glass, and queensware.
The form and decoration indicate that this jug is the work of Richard C. Remmey who made stoneware in Philadelphia at the family pottery from the 1860's to the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-9).
Circa 1870, this beauty features the Small 1/2 Gallon Size and Three Lines of Impressed Advertising with Cobalt Wash within a Rectangular Label. Stands 9 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 3/8" chip on the underside near the edge. That's it! No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Two faint 1" firing lines at the base in the making.
