Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic 5 Gallon Stoneware Crock with Parrot Poised on a Double Plume made and stamped by "Frank B. Norton & Co., Worcester, Mass."
This is the mark of Franklin Norton and Frederick Hancock during the period of 1858 to 1876 ("The F. B. Norton Pottery: Stoneware of Every Description." Worcester Historical Museum, 1980-1981).
This beauty features an Unusually Large Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Parrot on a Double Plume Decoration. This was one of Norton's signature decorations and is typically found with gorgeous cobalt like this crock exhibits. The parrot is 9" tall and the plumes are 8" and 10". The left plume exhibits linear leaves and the one on the right rounded leaves. Measures 11 1/2" tall and 13" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. Two chips on the underside at the edge (1/2", 1") and some light scattered stains. That's it! No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
