Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "E. & L. P. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT ."
This is the mark of Edward Norton and Luman Preston Norton, the son of Julius Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 43-44).
This beauty features a Larger Size, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Huge Dotted Plume Executed with a Slip Cup. The plume has 16 loops and 24 dots (yes, I like to count! lol). Stands 15 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. An 1/8" chip on the spout and a small ping front shoulder to the left. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. In the making: a 1/4" stoneping in the plume and stray surface firing lines on the spout, handle, and base.
