Item 2431
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this cute and early 1/2 Gallon Decorated Jar
The decoration indicates that this jar was made by Isaac V. Machett, Sr. and Jr. who worked in Cornwall, N.Y. from 1859-1867, first together and then with Isaac, Jr. alone (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 65 and 82-83). It might even be an earlier work of Isaac V. Machet, Sr. who potted in Hackensack, N.J. before coming to Cornwall (Willliam Ketchum, Jr.,Potters and Potteries of New York State, 1650-1900, 2nd ed., p. 128).
This beauty features an Early Ovoid Form, Small 1/2 Gallon Size, Squared Rim, Freehand Cobalt Flower, and Cobalt Accents at the Handle Terminals. Stands 9 1/2" tall.
