Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Splendid 2 Gallon Decorated Preserve Jar stamped "Cortland."
The decoration indicates that this is the work of Madison Woodruff who ran the pottery in Cortland, New York from 1849-1885 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Whirlwind Decoration Executed in Brilliant Cobalt using a Slip Cup. To say the least, the Cobalt is Bright!! Stands 10 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1" narrow chip on the inner seating ring, a 3/8" chip inside the rim, and some small glaze flakes between the capacity number and pottery stamp. No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
