Item 11594
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Splendid 2 Gallon Decorated Preserve Jar stamped "Cortland."
The decoration indicates that this is the work of Madison Woodruff who ran the pottery in Cortland, New York from 1849-1885 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Brushed Cobalt Plant Filling the Front. Not a decoration that I have ever seen before. Stands 10 3/4" tall.
Fair Condition. Minor nibbles on the inner seating ring, three 3/4" chips outside the rim, a faint 4" hairline from the rim to the right of "Cortland" (closeup), two 1/2" chips on the right handle, and an 8" crack from the rim on the back as shown. No stains or restoration. Otherwise, mint!
