Item 8384

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this most unusual 1 Gallon Jar with Incised Goonie Bird.

Circa 1870 and coming from Ohio, this beauty featues a Tooled Broad Rim with Deep Groove for Tying a Cover Over the Top, and an Incised Goonie Bird.   You won't find another one like it! Stands 9 1/2" tall.

It was late in stoneware manufacturing to find incised birds like this, but the tradition lived on in southern Ohio well up to 1900.  For similar jars and incised birds, see James L. Murphy's Checklist of 19th-Century Bluebird Potters and Potteries in Muskingum County, Ohio, edited by Jeff Carskadden and Richard Gartley

Very Good Condition.  Two chips on the underside at the edge (3/4", 1 1/2").  No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
