    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this uncommon Blue and White Spongeware Cake/Butter Crock.

     

    It was made by the Cannelton Pottery Company of Cannelton, Indiana.  This company was founded in 1862 and made stoneware from 1872 into the 1890's (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 114).

     

    This beauty features a Full Gallon Size with Blue Sponging on White Glaze and Original Lid.  Measures 5 3/4" tall and 9 1/4" wide across the top. 

     

    Excellent Condition.  The base has some staining inside from use. Otherwise as made.  The lid has a couple stray nibbles and four chips side-by-side on the outer edge (1/4" to 3/8") (3-4 o'clock in the picture).  No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
