Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "C. Crolius, Stoneware Manufacturer, Manhattan-Wells, New York."
This jar is the work of Clarkson Crolius Senior who made pottery in New York City from 1800 to 1838 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 62).
This beauty features an Ovoid Form, Rounded Rim, Pottery Stamp, and a Cobalt Garland that Encircles the Jar. Stands 9 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Three short lines at the rim (closeup 1), only the one in the back goes through (closeup 2). Other lines at the base that are surface only (closeup 3), and a 3/16" nibble on the base. No rim chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
An early and historic piece of New York history.
