Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this scrumptious 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Burger & Lang, Rochester, N.Y."
This is the mark of John Burger, Jr., George Burger, and their brother-in-law, George Lang who ran the family's pottery under this stamp from 1867 to 1877 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty sports a Tall Semi-Ovoid Form, Oval Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand Capacity Number, and a Cobalt Floral Executed with a Slip Cup. The floral sports five leaves and two buds with shading and accenting. They also mixed some gorgeous the day this jug was decorated. Stands 15" tall.
Excellent Condition. Four small chips around the base (1/8" to 3/8") and some scattered staining. No apout chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
