Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Whites Binghamton."

This is one of the marks of William Roberts, son-in-law of Noah White of Whites Pottery in Utica, N.Y.  He founded a branch of the family business in Binghamton in 1848 for his father-in-law, and ran it until 1888 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 71).

This beauty features a Strong Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Huge Double Floral Created with a Slip Cup that Fills the Front.  Five leaves and a double stem uphold two large blossoms the size of tomatoes.   Bright cobalt throughout.  Stands 13 3/4" tall.

Good Condition.  A 3/16" flake on the left side and a 1/2" chip on the right side of the spout, and a narrow 1" chip on the back bottom.  A vertical hairline from the shoulder to the base as shown. Some staining around the middle from use.  No restoration. A kiln touch on the upper right of the right blossom in the making.
