Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "Burger & Co., Rochester, N.Y."
This is the mark of John Burger, Jr. who ran the family's pottery under this stamp from 1877-1879 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty sports a Strong, Semi-Squared Rim, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand Capacity Number, and a Large Tulip Executed with a Slip Cup. The tulip has 5 leaves and a blossom with 3 petals. All the decoration is accented with short lines. Shiny cobalt. Measures 10 1/4" tall and 11 1/4" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. Some staining from use. Otherwise as made. No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
