Item 1165
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Preserve Jar made and stamped by "Burger & Co., Rochester, N.Y."
This is the mark of John Burger, Jr. who ran the family's pottery under this stamp from 1877-1879 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty sports the pottery stamp with cobalt wash and an Elaborate Cobalt
Wreath Executed with a Slip Cup. The wreath has nearly 45 sections and a bow at the base. Exceptionally clean glaze and dark cobalt for a visual delight! Stands 11" tall.
Very Good Condition. Some pinhead-size nibbles on the inner seating ring where a lid would sit, a chip inside the top rim (3/8"), two chips outside the top rim (1/8, 1/2"), and a fine and nearly invisible 4" in-body hairline on the back (closeup). No base chips, stains, or restoration.
