Item 12522
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "Brady and Ryan, Ellenville, N.Y."
This is the stamp of Samuel Brady and John J. Ryan who ran their pottery in Ellenville from 1878-1897 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 66).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp and a Classic Chicken Pecking Corn Decoration. The decoration is executed with a slip cup using shiny cobalt. The chicken is nicely centered and accented with dots and feathers. There are 28 pieces of corn too! (apparently I do not have enough to do!). Measures 10 1/2" tall and 11" wide across the top.
There are a few signed chicken crocks like this one that help us attribute the many that are not signed.
Good Condition. Traces of waterglass staining inside and out, and scattered glaze flakes and a stain on the lower half. No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A stone ping on the rim in the back in the making.
