Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Blue and White Stoneware Spongeware Pitcher in the Girl and Dog Pattern.
As you know, this pitcher is rare in the more typical blue and white, but even rarer in the spongeware. Taylor and Lowrance in Salt Glaze Stoneware call the spongeware version "one degree beyond extremely rare" (p. 42).
Dating to the early 20th century, this beauty features an Oval Medallion on Each Side that Hosts a Young Girl on the Right Feeding Her Dog on the Left as He Rears up on His Hind Legs. The sponging is profuse and in a pleasant shade of blue. Stands 8 3/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. A faint 1 1/2" hairline from the rim on the left side (closeup). Otherwise as made.
