Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "A. O. Whittemore, Havana, N.Y."
This is the work of A. O. Whittemore who potted in Havana from 1862-1893 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 72).
This beauty features a Beehive Form, the Pottery Stamp, and a Bird Standing in Ground Cover. Bird decorations are not commonly found on stoneware by this maker. A similar bird on a Whittemore jug is found in Allen Sweet, The Stoneware of Havana, N.Y. and its Makers, 1850-1888, p. 64 (pictured above).
