Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this superb 5 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by "R. T. Williams, Manufacturer, New Geneva, PA."
This is the work of Robert T. Williams who worked in New Geneva, PA from 1882 to 1895 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp. 168-170).
This beauty features Top to Bottom Decoration! From the top down, a stripe outlines the rim, two wavy lines and detailed freehand vining flow across the shoulder, the company name flanked by nine graduated dashes on each side and underscored with more dashes and wavy lines at the bottom adorn the middle, and the capacity number flanked by tulip blossoms and dashes and underscored by a stripe decorate the bottom. Additional cobalt accents at the handle terminals. Much more decoration than is typical for this maker. Stands 16" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/4" nibble and 1/2" chip on the left handle. That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
