Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this uncommon Purple and Black Spongeware Sugar Bowl with Lid in the Peafowl Pattern,
Dating to the mid-19th century, this beauty features a Bulbous Form with Flared Rim and Footer, Purple and Black Sponging, Peafowl in Blue-Brown-Red on Branch, another Branch on the Back, and the Matching Lid. Stands 4 1/2" tall to the top of the lid.
Very Good Condition. Two pinhead-size nibbles on the lid-seating ring, a 1/2" chip under the rim in the back (closeup), and a surface x craze line on the underside. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. The lid has some light staining on the seating ring on the underside. Otherwise, as made.
