Item 12172
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare 1 Gallon Crock with Chicken Eating a Worm.
It was made by the Fulper Pottery of Flemington, New Jersey (M. Lelyn Branin, The Early Makers of Handcrafted Earthenware and Stoneware in Central and Southern New Jersey, pp. 132-137).
This beauty features a Folky Chicken Standing in Lush Ground Cover having just Captured a Worm. The light gray glaze and the cobalt bird provide a strong visual contrast. Measures 8" tall and 9" wide across the top.
Fulper produced many, many crocks with birds, but rarely took the time to make one this elaborate. This particular one copies the potteries of Norton of Bennington, VT and Brady and Ryan of Ellenville, NY with the exception that the chicken is not pecking corn, but eating a worm!
Excellent Condition. Some narrow water glass rings inside near the top, a flat 3/4" chip inside the rim, and a 1/2" chip on the bottom edge. No outer rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
