Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jar made for the merchant "A. Dare & Son, Sistersville, W. VA."
It was made in Southwestern Pennsylvania at either Greensboro or New Geneva.
Circa 1880, this beauty features a Tooled Rim with Inner Ridge for a Lid, a Stripe Accenting the Rim, a Straight and Wavy Stripe Defining the Shoulder, Three Lines of Stenciled Advertising with Small Decorations Residing in the Middle, and the Capacity Number Flanked by Leaves and a Stripe Completing the Decoration at the Bottom. The stencil is complete and the cobalt is rich and strong. Stands 12" tall.
The inner ledge allows this piece to be used as preserve jar or a tabletop churn.
Excellent Condition. Two 1/4" chips inside the rim. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Very clean.
