Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic Three Gallon Stoneware Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "J. B. Maxfield, Milwaukee."

 

This is the work John B. Maxfield who worked Milwaukee from 1854-1858, sometimes with his brother Amos (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 147).

 

This beauty features an Ovoid Form, Strong Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand Capacity Number, and a Huge Brushed Cobalt Tulip in Vibrant Cobalt.  The Tulip has 6 leaves and a blossom with 5 petals.  Stands 15 1/4" tall.  

 

Excellent Condtion.  Some scattered staining.  That's it!  No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.   

 

A very early piece of Wisconsin pottery that is both beautiful and near perfect!
