Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful decorated 3 Gallon Jar attributed to Henry Remmey, Jr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Henry Remmey, Jr. ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1820's to the 1850's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).
Dating about 1850, this beauty features a Squared Rim, Tooled Shoulder, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accents, and a Brushed Cobalt Double Floral on Each Side. Each floral has base leaves adn two stemps with two flowers. The cobalt is rich and dark and set against a medium gray glaze to make a very pleasant contrast. Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. Water glass staining inside and some outside, a 3/4" chip inside the rim, and two chips outside the rim (3/8", 1"). No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A 3" drying line inside and a 2" surface firing line at the base outside in the making.
