Item 12073

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare 3 Gallon Jug made and stamped by Brewer & Halm, Havana."

This is the product of Stephen Brewer and Ralph Halm who partnered in Havana (modern Montour Falls) in stoneware from 1853 to 1854 (Allen F. Sweet, The Stoneware of Havana, N.Y. and its Makers 1850-1888, pp. 40-43).

This beauty features the Pottery Stamp and an Incredibly Detailed Incised Floral and Fruit Decoration.  From an urn at the bottom springs a curvy stem with six leaves of various sizes.  A large blossom with three petals hangs down from the top, while five clusters of berries accompany it on other branches.  There is even a sixth cluster of berries in the blossom!  All this fine incising is accented with cobalt.  Stands 16 1/2" tall.

I have never seen such detailed incised work.

Very Good Condition.  A faint vertical in-body hairline from the shoulder to near the base on the left side (closeup).  Otherwise, no chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
