Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped for the merchant, "A. B. Wheeler & Co., 69 Broad Street, Boston, Mass."
Wheeler was a major grocer in the Boston area in the late 19th century.
The decoration indicates that the jar was made in Fort Edward, N.Y. about 1880 and most likely by the New York Stoneware Company (1859-1885).
This beauty features the Company Advertising on the Shoulder and Washed in Cobalt, and a Bright and Bold Bird on a Branch Decoration. The bird is nicely centered on the jug and fills the front wondrfully. Stands 14" tall.
