Item 6842
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Decorated Stoneware Tabletop Churn with Lid.
This churn is easily attributed to Richard Remmey who made stoneware in Philadelphia at the family pottery from the 1860's to the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-9).
Circa 1870, this beauty features an Uncommon 1 Gallon Size with Flare Rim, Narrow Neck, Incised Shoulder, Appled Handles with Cobalt Accent, and Brushed Comma Vining Decoration. Comes with a very hard to find fitting and matching lid! Stands 11" tall.
Very Good Condition. Two flakes on top of the rim (1/4", 1/2"), three chips on the rim on one side (1/4", 3/8", and 5/8"), and three 1/4" chips on one handle. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. The lid has 4 chips on the raised guide (1/8" to 1/2"), and two on the top edge (1/2" each). No hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
