Item 11467
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Superb 1 Gallon Stoneware Butter Crock made by "Hamilton and Jones, Greensboro, PA."
This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, Pennsylvania from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Circa 1880, this beauty features a Tooled Rim with Groove for Ease of Tying a Cover Over the Tip, and Top and Bottom Cobalt Stripes that Frame the Company Advertising in a Fancy Paisley Shaped Stencil. The stencil is complete and stands out on the light gray glaze. Measures 6 3/4" tall and 8 1/4" wide across the top.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. I suspect we would have to look long and hard to find a better one.
