Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jar attributed to Henry Remmey, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA.
Henry Remmey, Jr. ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1820's to the 1850's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp. 8-10).
Circa 1840, this beauty features an Rolled Rim, Tooled Shoulder and Two Double Brushed Cobalt Florals Around the Middle. Both florals have four base leaves, two leaf-covered stem with a blossom atop each. On one side is what looks like a carnation and the other a cluster of grapes. Stands 10 3/4" tall.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. Some fine bubbles in the thickest part of the cobalt in the making.
