Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Decorated Stoneware Jar.

This jar is easily attributed to Richard Remmey who made stoneware in Philadelphia at the family pottery from the 1860's to the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-9).

Circa 1870, this beauty features a Finely Tooled Squared Rim and Four Large Brushed Cobalt Sideways Tulips around the Middle.  All the decoration is executed in strong cobalt.  Visually pleasing contrast between the light gray background and the dark cobalt decoration.  Stands 12 1/2" tall.

Excellent Condition.  A minor 1/4" chip at the base.  That's it!  No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A 1" chip on the very top of the the rim and a kiln touch on one tulip--both in the making.
