    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Decorated Stoneware Butter Crock.

     

    This is the work of Richard Remmey made stoneware in Philadelphia at the family pottery from the 1860's to the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-9). 

     

    Circa 1870, this beauty features a Carefully Tooled Square Rim and Ringed Shoulder, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accent, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip on Each Side.  Measures 8 1/4" tall and 9 1/4" wide across the top. 

     

    Very Good Condition.  A 1/2" chip inside the rim, and eight small chips around the outside of the rim (1/4" or less).  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
