    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Decorated Stoneware Jar Stamped "RCR, Phila."


    This is the work of Richard Remmey who made stoneware in Philadelphia, PA at the family pottery from the 1860's to the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-9). 
     
    Circa 1870, this beauty features a Finely Tooled Rim and Shoulder with Deep Groove for Ease of Tying a Cover over the Top, Capacity and Pottery Stamps, and Five Brushed Cobalt Leaves Forming a Garland Around the Middle.  All the decoration is executed in strong cobalt.  Visually pleasing contrast between the light gray background and the dark cobalt decoration.  Stands 12" tall.  

     

    Excellent Condition.  Small scattered staining. That's it!  No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
