Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Jar with Tulip Garland stamped "RCR Phila."

This is the work of Richard Remmey who ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1860's until the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).

Circa 1870, this beauty features a Larger than Usual Size, Tooled Canted Rim, Pottery Stamp, Applied Handles with Cobalt Trim, and a Garland of Large Brushed Cobalt Tulips.   The dark and rich cobalt reallly stands out on the light gray glaze.  Measures 16" tall and 10" wide across the base.

Very Good Condition.  Four narrow chips inside the rim (1/4" to 1"), a very faint 2 1/4" hairline at the rim in the back (closeup 1), and a faint 3" surface craze line in the back below the decoration (closeup 2).  No outer rim or base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
