    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1/2 Gallon Script Jug made for the merchant, "S. J. Freeman, Pittston, Pa."

     

    Based on signed examples, this jug is attributed to James Ryan who made stoneware in Pittston from 1891-1911 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 35-37). 

     

    This beauty features a Small 1/2 Gallon Size and Three Lines of Script Advertising in a Brown Slip. Stands 9 5/8" tall.

     

    Excellent Condition.  An extremely narrow 1/4" flake on the left side of the spout, and a shallow 1/2" chip on the left side of the handle.  That's it!  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A stone ping below the script in the making.
