Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this early 2 Gallon Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "S. H. Addington, Utica."
This is the mark of Samuel H. Addington who ran the pottery in Utica, New York from 1830-1838 before he sold it to the famous Noah White (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 69).
This beauty features the Early Ovoid Form with Tall Rim, Tooled Shoulder, Applied Handles, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Capacity Number Craddled by a Brushed Cobalt Leaf. Stands 10" tall.
Very Good Condition. Three minor nibbles on the inner lid-seating ring, and restoration for chips on the rim in the back (closeup). No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or stains. a 2" drying line from the rim inside in the making.
