Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Decorated Stoneware Pitcher
The flower with the circle between the stem and petals makes a probable attribution to Mauldine Perine or his former associate, William Linton of Baltimore, Maryland. Perine and sons worked in stoneware from approximately 1827 to after 1900, and Linton made stoneware from 1845 to 1867 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 98).
Circa 1850, this beauty features a Tooled Squared Rim, Tall Neck, Tooled Shoulder, Bulbous Body, and Tooled Rounded Footer. The spout is framed by cobalt leaves, the front sports a large sideways floral, and each side features two large units of comma vining. Additional cobalt at the handle terminals. A light gray glaze with rich cobalt for a pleasing contrast. Stands 13" tall.
Very Good Condition. Some chippage at the spout (closeup), and some chips on the footer as shown. No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
