    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Ovoid Jar attributed to Henry Remmey, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA.

     

    Henry Remmey, Jr. ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1820's to the 1850's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp. 8-10).

     

    Circa 1840, this beauty features an Ovoid Form, Tall Rim with Ridged Base, Cobalt at the Handle Terminals, and a Garland of Leaves with a Double Tulip Between Each.  This is a very pleasing and identifiable Remmey decoration.  Stands 9 3/4" tall.

     

    Excellent Condition.  Five minor nibbles on the rim (1/16" to 1/8"), narrow chips on the footer on one side (closeup), and a 3/4" chip on the underside.  No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
