Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Jar attributed to R. J. Grier of Chester County, Pennsylvania.
Ralph Grier and family ran a pottery in Mount Jordan, Chester County, Pennsylvania from the 1840's to 1910 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 12-13).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Carefully Tooled Rim to Allow a Covering to be Tied Over the Top and Under the Rim, and Three Brushed Cobalt Tulips Around the Shoulder in the Distinctive Grier Style. The tulips have 4-5 leaves and a blossom with 5 petals. Strong Cobalt. Stands 11" tall.
Excellent Condition. A couple of very faint stain runs. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
