Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this superb 2 Gallon Ovoid Jug whose decoration indictes that it was made by Thomas Reed who worked in Newport, Tuscarawas County, Ohio and later in Newcomerstown, Ohio in the 1850's-1880's (Robert Treichler, A History of Northeast Ohio Stoneware, p. 107).
Dating around 1850, this beauty sports the Tall and Slender Ovoid Form, Squared Rim, and Large Brushed Cobalt Tulip with Two Leaves and a Blossom with Three Petals. Stands 14 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Minor nibbles on the spout, three contiguous 1/4" chips on the base, and some staining from use. No hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
