Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Churn made by "A. Conrad, New Geneva, PA."

Alexander Conrad ran the pottery in New Geneva from 1870-1882 before moving to Shinnston, WV (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 164-65).

Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features Top to Bottom Decoration.  From the top down, a stripe accents the rim, the capacity number flanked by leaves decorates the shoulder, and the company advertising surrounding an eagle  and framed by roses takes center stage. The eagle sports a patriotic shield as a breastplate.  Additional generous cobalt accent at the grooved handle terminals.  Stands 15 1/2" tall.

Very Good Condition.  A 3/8" chip on the rim in the back, a 1 3/4" chip on top of the left handle, and traces of white paint.  No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A 2" surface drying/firing line inside below the lid seating ring in the making.
