Item 12125
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this uncommon Blue and White Spongeware Pitcher in the Wild Rose Pattern with Advertising.
You can see a fine writeup on this pitcher in Terry Taylor and Terry & Kay Lowrance, Collector's Encyclopedia of Salt Glaze Stoneware, pp. 84-85.
Dating about 1900, this beauty features Top and Bottom Borders with a Double Wild Rose in the Middle on Each Side. The borders are set off by a row of raised dots and feature alternating raised semi-circles and diamonds. The raised dots also accent the sides of the handle. Stands 9 1/4" tall.
This example is very uncommon, for it features advertising on the front for "John Schoepf Meats, 3433 Butler St., Pittsburgh, PA."
Excellent Condition. Light glaze crazing inside, a minor 1/4" nibble on the base, and surface-only craze lines on the underside. No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
