Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Exquisitely Molded Tobacco Canister made for "Sichel's Mixture, A Perfect Pipe Tobacco."
It was made by the Whites Pottery of Utica, NY between 1890 and 1907 when Whites made its fabulous molded stoneware. You can see a similar Cigar canister in The Blue and the Gray: Oneida County Stoneware by Christopher Bensch, p. 34.
This beauty features a Squatty Form with Diamond Background, the Company Advertising within a Frame and "Waves" around the Base. The lid features a Sea Serpent with Human Face as the Handle and the "Wavy" Pattern Around the Edge. Sharp mold lines and cobalt accents. Stands 7 1/2" to the top of the lid.
Excellent Condition. The base has only a faint 1 1/2" surface line inside only (closeup). Otherwise, as made. The lid is as made.
