Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Monumental 8 Gallon Churn made and stamped by "R. H. Diebboll, Washington, Mich."

This is an early work of Robert Diebboll who founded the Pines End Pottery in 1966 and made pottery until his passing in 2011. The stoneware was made with classic forms and decorations and carried on the American tradition of salt-glaze pottery with stunning success. His work is highly sought after for its artistry and quality.

This beauty features an Exceptionally Large Size, Tooled Rim and Shoulder, Applied Handles, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Folk Art Scene of a Woman Churning Butter in a Garden. The decoration is 12" tall and 10" wide!  The woman is wearing 19th century clothing with bonnet and flowered apron.  The churn is wooden with dasher.  The whole scene is framed by flowers.  A slip cup was used to create precise lines and the cobalt is bright and shiny.  Stands 23" tall.  Comes with a Diebboll lid with the impressed bird.

This is the largest piece of Diebboll stoneware that I have ever seen.

Excellent Condition.  The only apology is a 1/2" chip and a 2" oval glued chip beside it on the bottom of the left side.  Surface only (closeup 1).  For no apparent reason the original owner filled a surface drying line on the bottom from the making (closeup 2).
