Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Blue and White Spongeware Covered Serving Dish.
Dating to the late 19th century, this beauty features a Domed Lid with Lion Finial (he is cute!) and a Base with Extruded Handles-- all Sponged in Cobalt Blue. The base measures 10" long, 8 3/4" wide and 2 1/4" tall. It is 6 1/4" tall to the top of the lion's head.
Exceptional Condition. As made. A 1/4" clay flip on the edge of the base (closeup 1), and a 1" clay loss on the underside of the base (lower left corner of the picture)-- both in the making.
